Youth work and building Resistance report (October 2009 DSP National Committee plenum)

Resistance faces the huge task of trying to unite radical young people in a revolutionary socialist movement in Australia. This means that we need to grow in such a way that we move closer to this goal; being able to assess the political situation, recognise campaign openings and having the organisational tasks and perspectives to get us there.

Women's rights report (October 2009 DSP National Committee plenum)

The economic crisis and its effects are being borne disproportionately by women.

Women workers are highly concentrated in low-wage, less-unionised sectors of the workforce – retail, manufacturing, hospitality and services for instance. According to the International Labour Organisation the labour market projections for 2009 show that the global unemployment rate could reach between 6.3 and 7.1% this year, with a corresponding female unemployment rate ranging from 6.5 to 7.4% (compared to 6.1 to 7.0% for men).

Australian political situation report (October 2009 DSP National Committee plenum)

The DSP and Socialist Alliance are fighting against capitalism’s destructive environmental practices, its drive for profit at the expense of working people, its attacks on the rights of Indigenous Australians, its attacks on the civil liberties of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people, and its attacks, via the so-called anti-terror laws, on minorities such as the Tamils and Somalis.

Support the Tamil people's right to self-determination

Democratic Socialist Perspective (Australia) statement in response to the United Nations Human Rights Council resolution on Sri Lanka

June 12, 2009 -- The Democratic Socialist Perspective (DSP) -- a Marxist organisation affiliated to the Socialist Alliance of Australia -- supports the right of Tamils to self-determination. We have campaigned in solidarity with the Tamil people for several decades. For example, at the time of the 1983 massacre the DSP worked with the Tamil community in Australia to organise protests. This year too, the DSP, Socialist Alliance and Resistance worked closely with Tamil communities, including helping organise rallies, to highlight the calls for a ceasefire and for self-determination.

Support democracy in Nepal! Support the Nepalese people!

May 5, 2009

All supporters of democracy and social justice have reason to be concerned by the recent events in the republic of Nepal.

The military high command, backed by right-wing parties tied to the country’s elite, has openly defied the authority of the elected civilian government, led by the Unified Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (UCPN-M).

May Day 2009 greetings from the DSP

Dear Comrades

May Day greetings from the Democratic Socialist Perspective, a Marxist tendency in the Socialist Alliance in Australia.

May Day this year takes place amidst the most severe economic crisis for capitalism since the 1930s. At the same time, the very survival of humanity is now threatened by catastrophic climate change that cannot be solved without fundamental social change. It has never been more clear that capitalism is not working.
